Minister of Home Affairs Vajira Abeywardena said that facts will be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers about providing duty free vehicle permits to one group and not providing duty free vehicle permits to another group of Provincial Councillors.
This decision has been taken by the Minister at a meeting held recently in “Suhuru Paya” building in Battaramulla with the Forum of United National Party Provincial Councillors.
Provincial Councillors have requested to provide duty free vehicle permits to all of them as vehicle permits have been issued to two Provincial Councillors of Southern Provincial Council, one Councillor in Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council, some provincial councillors in Eastern Provincial Council and Provincial Councillors of Northern Provincial Council, and the Forum has informed that there are 110 new faces in the Provincial Councils.
Minister Vajira Abeywardena has said that there is an injustice in providing duty free vehicle permits among Provincial Councillors and he will submit a Cabinet Paper after discussing the matter with the Prime Minister.
In addition to this, Minister has discussed with them the problems the Councillors are facing at present. They have discussed the pledges given during crisis situation and they have not fulfilled them so far, the government has not taken action to the problems affecting the people and not allocated funds for development work.
