The SLFP while having some differences on the proposed 20th Amendment to the Constitution, yesterday appointed a 10-member committee to review the draft of the Amendments that has been tabled in Parliament and submit a report as early as possible.
The party’s politburo met yesterday with former President Maithripala Sirisena at the chair and unanimously decided to appoint this expert committee led by Labour Minister and senior vice President of the SLFP, Nimal Siripala De Silva.
Other members of the committee are General Secretary of the SLFP, UPFA General Secretary and Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara, State Minister and National Organiser of the party, Duminda Dissanayaka, former acting chairman of the party, Prof. Rohana Lakshman Piyadasa, former Minister Faizer Musthapha, former Chief Minister and Parliamentarian Shan Wijayalal Silva, Sarathi Dushmantha, Sanjaya Gamage and Dr. Chamil Liyanage.
The expert committee was scheduled to hold its first meeting this afternoon.
