Health Authorities had identified 39 employees infected with COVID-19 during PCR tests carried out in a fertilizer factory in Ekala on Friday.
Administrative PHI in Jaela Pradeshiya Sabha S.W.M.Y.Wijesinghe said 133 employees were subject to PCR tests and 39 of them were found to be affected. He said the majority of them were residents of the area and the others were from Gampaha and Anuradapura.
The PHI said festivities to celebrate Christmas regardless of health guidelines had resulted in the spread of the disease in the area. He pointed out that the situation would worsen unless the people took precautions as instructed by the health authorities.
