A total of 244 officers of the Sri Lanka Army have been promoted to their next higher rank by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in view of the 72nd National Independence Day held yesterday.
The Army said 17 Brigadiers had been promoted to the Rank of Major General, while 45 Lieutenant Colonels were promoted to the Rank of Colonel.
Accordingly, the President promoted 49 Majors to the Rank of Lieutenant Colonel, 42 Captains as Majors, 80 Lieutenants as Captains and 11 Second Lieutenants to the Ranks of Lieutenant.
