SJB will educate the people on the 20A in due course
By Yohan Perera
Pro-separatist Tamil Diaspora members could come to Parliament if those who hold dual citizenship are allowed to become MPs under the proposed 20th Amendment to the constitution, a Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP said yesterday.
SJB MP S. M. Marikkar told a press conference that pro separatist Tamil Diaspora members could come using the avenue created by the proposed 20th Amendment.
“We see already what MP C. V. Vigneswaran is trying to do in the new Parliament and one wonders what would happen in the legislature if pro-separatist Tamil Diaspora members come in using the avenue created by the 20th Amendment under which dual citizens are allowed to become MPs,” Mr. Marikkar said.
“People are of the view that those who hold dual citizens should not be appointed as public servants after the Arjuna Mahendran episode. Besides, people never wanted the 19th Amendment repealed as they defeated the previous government because of insane acts of former President Maithripala Sirisena and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe,” he added. Also he said SJB will educate the people on the 20th Amendment to the constitution in every town in the coming days.
