Investigations revealed that the suspect woman who delivered the child in her house had killed and buried the infant. Police searched the house on information from the Grama Niladhari of the area and questioned her, to find that she had killed the infant. Under interrogation she revealed the location of burial.
The woman who was in a critical condition after delivery was admitted to hospital under arrest. Police said the woman living in separation from her husband due to a family dispute had given birth to a child by her paramour.
The body was exhumed in the presence of the Vavuniya Magistrate and referred to Vavuniya JMO for postmortem examination.
