Curfew in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Puttalam districts will be effective till May 11
The normalisation of livelihood and institutional operations in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara and Puttalam Districts will commence on May 11 while curfew is still in effect, the President’s Media Division said, adding that curfew in other districts would be effective from May 4 to 6 from 08:00 p.m. to 05:00 a.m.
Curfew in these districts will be in force from 08:00 p.m. on May 6 to 05:00 a.m. on May 11.
Heads of all State departments, corporations, statutory boards and private sector industries have the freedom to decide who and how many employees should report to work. Private sector entities should open their offices daily at 10:00 a.m.
Police will apply curfew regulations to the letter and will be watching unnecessary private gatherings, parties and grouping of people for merry-making.
Meanwhile, DIG Ajith Rohana said: “Our advice is to stay home, don’t step out. Even the large gathering for religious purposes at temples, churches, kovils and mosques will not be permitted.”
Post Master General Ranjith Ariyaratne said normal postal department functions like the delivery of letters and parcels, payment of pensions, telephone and electricity bills and traffic fines will be started in the 21 districts where curfew is to be lifted. However, it is expected that the SLTB and private bus service will be not operate to desired levels as drivers and conductors are reluctant to run buses without security as they would be exposed to the virus.
In the 24 hours ending 6.00 am yesterday, police took into custody 544 individuals with 141 vehicles for violating curfew regulations.
