There is no issue in holding the general election if health authorities give the green light and if the safety of voters can be guaranteed, former UNP General Secretary and SJB national list candidate Tissa Attanayake told a press conference held yesterday.
“Many have misunderstood when I said the election should be held. I only mentioned that it could be so if health authorities give the green light. I also stressed that the opinion of political parties need to be sought before taking a final decision. One cannot on go without the legislature which has power over finances. There is no way of obtaining information on spending done utilising consolidated funds and on the assistance received by foreign countries. We cannot even question about these matters as Parliament is not functioning at the moment,” he said.
On a different note, he questioned as to why the government was treating COVID-19 patients from Seychelles when a large number of expatriates were pleading to come back to Sri Lanka.
