Sri Lanka U-19 team led by Richmond College all-rounder Kamindu Mendis left to New Zealand this evening to compete at the ICC U19 Youth World Cup 2018 in New Zealand. The 13th edition of the event, featuring 16 teams, will be held from January 13 to February 3.
Mendis is the second schoolboy cricketer from Richmond College, Galle to lead Sri Lanka U19 cricket team after Charith Asalanka did the honours in the 2016 edition.
Josephian all-rounder Jehan Daniel will serve as the vice-captain of the side.
Mendis and Daniel are the only two members of the current squad to have played in the 2016 tournament in Bangladesh.
Sri Lanka will compete in a tough group D against former winners Pakistan, Asia cup champions Afghanistan and Ireland.
