Govt. must pay subsidies for the farmers when the prices come down to supplement their losses. This method has been followed by USA to maintain the standard of wheat farmers.

Mr counrtyman why you have to stright away compare SL to USA. Please compare apples with apples In most 3rd world countries Govt subsidies things which will damage the growth of the country. Leave it to the open market to work the things out. USA is is the world biggest economy let thm do what is right for them you have to do what is good for u

Happy to see these photos. Poor farmers suffered so many years due to war, government must do whatever possible to uplift their well being.

Giving subsidies for manure alone is not enough(tax payers money)You need to find them alternate markets locally and abroad for their crops.
If not all farmers will give up their job or drink poison for sure.
It is high time the President intervene as a farmer's son who has a better knowledge than the present minister

Refrigeration is the answer, eventually we will have to that if we are to save the produce for leaner months of the year. That way the farmer would gain as he would get a steady price for his produce with the least spoilage. Farmers on their own could not afford this its the government duty to help the farmers with refrigeration via cooperatives.

Unsold Vegetables or in excess stock are destroyed purposely in order to keep the prices up... Its very sad that traders do such a thing where only the middle class suffers. Its high time the govt wake up and look into this.
