A baby Bengal tiger that was born at the Dehiwala Zoo on October 22 is being taken care of by the National Zoological Gardens officials. According to them, the mother tiger was refusing to feed the cub as a result of which the officials had to provide it with special conditions and food formulas to boost immune system. Saba Wednesday, 27 October 2010 08:35 AM

    well said.

    Duminda Tuesday, 26 October 2010 11:12 PM

May be this is President Mahinda Rajapaksha and his Cabinet's fault..

Why couldn't president and the cabinet made the tiger mother understand about the situation.

I am sure Sri Lankan university students are with me on this one along with the my ever loving UNP and JVP brothers and sisters as they are the most educated people in the whole world.

    Kind Regards

    thawath moda UNP/JVP karayek

Just like the some Sri Lankan mother's who abandon kids and throw them to the kalu ganga.

YES THE CONCEPT OF A ZOO SHOULD BE RE-VISITED.

WE MUST ALWAYS THINK WHY ARE WE DOING THIS.

"You cannot solve problems by using the same kind of thinking you used when you created them" Einstein,

    Wisdom Tuesday, 26 October 2010 08:25 PM

IF 'god" WAS THERE THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED!!

    beau Tuesday, 26 October 2010 07:05 PM

Dont molly coddle tigers, even if they are babies. They are dangerous ....... sorry folks..... joke, joke.

Mynah Bird Tuesday, 26 October 2010 04:57 PM

What a dirty cage the mother is in ! We should be ashamed that our only zoo keeps animals in such cages. Looks like a dirty toilett.

    Obelix Tuesday, 26 October 2010 03:05 PM

The Zoo is under the nation building minister. We can see where we are going from this example.

    Obelix Tuesday, 26 October 2010 01:59 PM

Born Free as free as the wind blows. These animals belong to the jungle and not a cage.

    Sanj Tuesday, 26 October 2010 01:22 PM

I think minister should taken up this with the mother tiger

    milli Tuesday, 26 October 2010 01:05 PM

Tiger on STRIKE!! Watching too much French television

Oyage sudu kella Tuesday, 26 October 2010 12:53 PM

Aiyo.... pavu. Mom tiger is living inside a dirty toilet !

    Holman Tuesday, 26 October 2010 12:50 PM

Now that the 2 legged tigers are no more in our jungles, why don't the Zoo authorities release some of these 4 legged tigers into Yala and Wilpattu ?

    Labby Tuesday, 26 October 2010 08:07 AM

God willing, the cub will survive.

    migara Tuesday, 26 October 2010 10:31 AM

Mother is so beautiful. What a tragedy. She is like a caged bird, looks very frustrated. Poor thing.

    mallie Tuesday, 26 October 2010 10:14 AM

.....including the "naked apes"....us..the Homo Sapiens

    Taj Tuesday, 26 October 2010 10:11 AM

They are pretty much safe from the money hungry cruel poachers now lurking in the wild

    mallie Tuesday, 26 October 2010 10:09 AM

do not u see that we are also in cages..some times physical..some times mental

    Abu Tuesday, 26 October 2010 10:01 AM

What aweful conditions for the tiger to live in. Looks like the floor of a slum. Not a zoo in the capital of the Jewel of Asia.
    Shehan35 is probably most accurate.
Poor kitten. Isn't the day and age where we keep big cats in cages in "zoos" over?

Tm Abay Tuesday, 26 October 2010 09:51 AM

Wild mammals usually don't feed their young when food is scarce. Does that mean our National Zoo is out of funds to feed the animals or is it the usual neglegence our ppl have?

    Wasp Tuesday, 26 October 2010 09:47 AM

Reminds one of some other time when India did this same nurturing of the Tamil tigers who went on to become the most ruthless terrorist group in the world. But this baby looks so innocent and cuddly.

    prabodha Tuesday, 26 October 2010 09:46 AM

    Ane amme meyage lassana!
Hope you will survive some how. You look like a tough one. Don't give up.

    Pandu Tuesday, 26 October 2010 09:33 AM

Need to find out this happens. Usually this happens in the wild when the food in scarcity. The strong will survive the weak die out.

    wasala Tuesday, 26 October 2010 08:52 AM

Very very cute, yes what shehan says is true... what a miserable life in confined quarters. They need freedom to run around. This is like a prison

    Thanuja Tuesday, 26 October 2010 08:37 AM

Agree with above.....really a cute n adorable cub.........

Oh welcome new born cub......fortunately i visited the zoo on da same day, if i knew abt u i would definitely come n see u......LOL

    shehan35 Tuesday, 26 October 2010 08:26 AM

May be the mother does'nt want the same fate for her cub. To be kept under human captivity in the small cages. What a sin! They should be in the wild and not in zoo just to make it more convenient for humans to see them. All animals must be free...

    migara Tuesday, 26 October 2010 08:07 AM

    lazy mother, happily dozing

    Adorable cute cub!
