Two ladies, one from Italy and the other from Germany, renounced the worldly pleasures and entered the order at the Olabotuwa Khema Arya Meditation Centre in Horana yesterday morning.

Italian lady Juliana (32) had been a professor at the Dharma Drum University in Thaiwan and the German lady Hedwig (42), a doctor before they came to Sri Lanka to enter the order.

Prof. Juliana entered the order as Ven. Ithaliye Dhammadinna and Dr. Hedwig as Ven. Germaniye Vajira under the tutelage of Chief Incumbent of the Olabotuwa Kehema Arya Meditation Centre Ven. Dr. Kolonnawe Kusuma Bikkuni and Ven. Engalanthaye Wimalo Bikkuni.

The two ladies who entered the order said they decided to enter the order to practise mindfulness and right effort through the teachings of the Buddha. They said they had been practising meditation since long and that they were able to spend 4 to 5 hours in one posture. The two Bhikkunis said their objective was to enter the path of Nirvana through meditation that leads to right understanding.

The ordaining ceremony was organised under the guidance of the founder of the Sandaham Asapua, Parliamentarian Aturaliye Rathana Thera. Devotees from several areas were present at the ceremony. (Buddhika Kumarasiri)

I fail to undersand the mentality of the people here, who gives a "thumbs down" to any comment about these Bikkunis. They must have very warped minds or musa be completely stupid.

Many scientific discoveries (Quantum physics, evolution, big bang theory) are compatible with Buddhism,
So there's a lot of interest in Buddhism in west,
Pity that although there are lot of Buddhists in Sri Lanka ,very few follow the correct path

Quantum mechanics wise I guess you are referring "Information Preservation", "Reality being an illusion", etc?

The most of those who take the correct path of Load Buddah's teachings of Dhamma in the present context are the educated Westerners.

no one converts anyone forcefully, just go to youtube and check how people embrace difference religions willingly like these 2 ladies!

Buddhism is not a religion, it's a philosophy, Uncle Albert got it wrong, you got it totally wrong, Buddhism preaches atheism indirectly, it says your mind is the supreme power and there is no supreme power beyond your mind. Buddha never claimed divinity and Buddhism never preached divinity! Modern Science has nothing to do with Buddhism!

Not all Sri Lankans lives the way of Buddha. If all follow the way of Buddha, there won't be crimes such as murder, child abuse, and sex related crimes..... At least these two westerners are willing to learn the way of Buddha, that has to be appreciated. But sad thing is that we Sri Lankans have forgotten the basic values of human lives at times..........

Is anyone force them to convert to Buddhism? No right? They understood truth and what they need for their lives and ordained as Bhikkunis . I hate some religious groups and people force convert to their religious. I hate them…
