It's in their religion. The religion is there to follow. It's unwise to tell somebody how to follow his/her religion.

Very good! sacrifice is a noble sentiment. But sacrifice of the lives of innocent animals is unacceptable.

    micky Wednesday, 17 November 2010 04:51 AM

can any one explain what Eid-Ul-Azha is?

Ossan Salam - Doha Thursday, 18 November 2010 08:27 AM

In the explanation of Eid Ul Azha my brother has absent mindedly forgot to mention the name of "Prophet Abraham" as mere Abraham. In Islam he considered as the Father of all Prophets.........his sacrifice cannot be undermined by any human being on this earth. Further Prophet Abraham (Ibraheem) had two sons namely Ismael and Isac...... Our Holy Prophet Muhammed born in the clan of Ismael while the Great Prophet Jesus (Eisa) born in the clan of Isac.....,.

Monarawila Nilame, don't be so stupid. learn to respect other cultures. Muslims kill and eat, unlike we Buddhists wait someone else to kill and then eat. :)

    Mohamed Wednesday, 17 November 2010 05:35 AM

Eid al-Adha (Arabic: عيد الأضحى‎ ‘Īdu l-’Aḍḥā) or "Festival of Sacrifice" or "Greater Eid" is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Abraham (Ibrahim) to sacrifice his son Ishmael (Isma'il) as an act of obedience to God, before God intervened to provide him with a ram to sacrifice instead. (wikipedia)

This festival is celebrated on the 10th day of the month of Dul-Hijjah (which is the last month in the Islamic calender)

The people who go to perform the Hajj pilgrimage to Makkah (in Saudi Arabia) do not celebrate Hajj festival as others around the world, instead it is the 9th day of the month (which is known as the day of Arafah) is the most significant for them to perform rituals and prayers.

Eid ul Azha is the day when the Muslims in the world , offer prayers in Mosques and open grounds, to be followed by sacrifices of animals (in many Muslim countries) in memory of Abraham (known as father of faith by the people of Book in monotheistic religions) who sacrificed his beloved son as a token of submitting himself in faith to the command of the Almighty One.

    Badrudeen Wednesday, 17 November 2010 06:04 AM

It is one of the two festivals celebrated by the Muslims. Eid-Ul-Azha is festival of sacrifice. It also coincides with the performance of Haj in Mecca which is one of the five principles of Islam.
