A pumpkin farmers festival, organised by the Coexist Foundation, was held yesterday at the Green Path Colombo on February 22, 2019. The festival provided a platform for farmers who are struggling to sell their abundant harvest of pumpkin, to make some sales.  Many farmers across Sri Lanka are going through of this predicament which is why Coexist Foundation Chairman Channa de Silva came up with the concept to organise this festival. Thousands of acres of pumpkins are grown in the US. About 90% of the crop is sold during the month of October, to carve "jack lanterns" to celebrate Halloween on October 31. All carved pumpkins are discarded next day. Why are Sri Lankan farmers growing a crop without a market to sell.

Government has no vision. Just play a drama and suppress the situation as and when it arises. There is no long term strategic plans and control for timing, extent, viriety of crops , supply chain etc that can improve the farming sector. What else we can expect from these parasites who lives on poor countrymen?
