In an effort to move Sri Lanka towards embracing environment friendly agricultural practices, the government said it will take all the necessary measures to promote organic fertilizer production at district level.
In a discussion held at the Presidential Secretariat, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa stressed the need to get all stakeholders together to educate farmers in this regard.
“The government must ensure the right of the people to a toxic-free diet in order to create a healthy and productive citizen.
“It is also a pledge made in the National Policy Framework ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour’ to accelerate the production of organic fertilizers in the next decade so that only organic fertilizer will be used in the agricultural field of Sri Lanka,” President Rajapaksa said.
Affirming there will be no turning back from the decision, the President said those reluctant to support the endeavor, and those who have different views, may leave the program at the beginning itself.
Rajapaksa pointed out that he is prepared to personally reach out to the farming community to overcome any challenges.
