Sarvodaya Development Finance Limited (SDF) recently hosted workshops on financial literacy for small business entrepreneurs who had obtained financing facilities from the company in the areas of Balangoda, Ratnapura, Anuradhapura, Kandy and Gampaha.
The workshops were conducted by the parent company of SDF, Sarvodaya Economic Enterprise Development Services (Guarantee) Ltd (SEEDS). The first programme was held at the Ratnapura Sarvodaya District Centre. The next two programme were held in Anuradhapura and Kandy. The most recent workshop was held at the Gampaha Sarvodaya Centre.
The workshops were conducted by a set of trained staff of SEEDS, while senior officials and Regional Managers of Sarvodaya Development Finance Limited also participated in the programmes.
Commenting on the objectives of this series of workshops, Sarvodaya Development Finance Limited CEO Ravindra Ranjith noted, “Through these workshops our aim is to give small and medium entrepreneurs a basic introduction to the concept of ‘entrepreneurship’, an introduction of basic accounting concepts, identification of basic accounting records and the need to understand why a business should maintain a simple set of financial records.
The seminars were well received in all districts and we hope to educate more and more grass root level business people on financial literacy regularly. We have also decided to have more programmes of this nature in the other parts of the country covering all our branches.”
The management of SDF took a decision to provide an additional service to its customers on top of lending (credit plus) to enhance the knowledge in business management so that SDF can proudly produce a set of successful businessmen/entrepreneurs in the country.
