LTL Projects (Pvt.) Ltd, a unit of LTL Holdings, recently entered into a Rs.600 million contract with the Maldives Environment and Energy Ministry for design, supply, installation and maintenance of generator and grid infrastructure in five islands.

Environment and Energy State Minister Abdul Matheen Mohamed signed on behalf of the ministry and Chief Executive Officer H.D. Chaminda signed on behalf of LTL Projects.

This project is under the first phase of the development plan of ‘Preparing Outer Islands for Sustainable Energy Development (POISED)’ undertaken by the Maldives Environment and Energy Ministry with financial assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Feasibility studies show that there is a 30 percent loss in some islands due to inefficient generators and poorly planned distribution grid facilities. The aim of this component of the POISED project is to reduce the generation cost by rehabilitating generators and grid.

The project also aims to implement a solar-diesel hybrid system as a pilot project to reduce the cost of generation while maintaining green, uninterrupted and quality supply to inhabitants. Islands that will be upgraded in Phase I are Buruni, Goindhoo, GA. Villingili, Kurendhoo and Addu City.

LTL Projects has been involved in large-scale engineering, construction and development projects in power, water and infrastructure sectors and has carried out numerous ADB projects successfully in Sri Lanka.

Chaminda said that he was very happy that they had been able to procure this assignment in the Maldives. He assured the Maldivian Environment and Energy Ministry that they would keep to their project timelines and even endeavour to complete the project earlier than scheduled.
