JLanka Technologies, the nation’s pioneer in advanced solar power solutions was the main sponsor of the recently concluded 2nd Annual International Conference on Energy 2015 (ICOE-2015) and concurrent International Conference on Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICNSNT-2015).

The overall theme for ICOE-2015 was ‘Advanced energy horizons-opportunities and challenges’ with The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s eminent largest professional association for the advancement of technology as hosting partner for the conference.

Continuing the success of last year’s Energy Conference, for the second year running The International Institute of Knowledge Management (TIIKM), the country’s premier professional knowledge management company, as organising partner proficiently set about presenting a truly successful conference.

The three-day international event featured the latest research advances on a wide range of topics related to Energy, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, facilitated knowledge-sharing and expanded the opportunity to utilise this knowledge interchange among delegates from different cultures and regions. The conference also brought together globally respected eminent authors and speakers sharing ideas and new perspectives
A feature of the conference was the showcasing of Sri Lanka’s growing potential in developing nanotechnology and collaborating with developed nations to create tangible solutions and address key development related challenges in diverse sectors.

Participants discussed a range of vibrant and diverse topics including textile and apparel, smart agriculture, energy, water purification, nanobiotechnology, computational nanoscience, and nanotechnology safety and policy.

Prof. K. M. Nalin de Silva, Professor of Chemistry, University of Colombo and Science Team Leader, Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC), Sri Lanka was the conference chair and was also among the many distinguished keynote speakers.

Prof. Gehan Amaratunga, The Group Leader of the Electronics, Power and Energy Conversion (EPEC) Research Group, Electrical Engineering Division, Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom contributed his thoughts during the keynote forum.

Prof. Amaratunga noted, “Nano technology is going to be a key component to develop products to gain competitive edges in the international markets with nanotechnology and nano applications serving as a great answer to global problems in terms of food, water and health care.”

Representing JLanka, Eng. Nalin Karunasinghe, Consultant R &D Division, JLanka Technologies shared his thoughts on a ‘Novel Online Energy Monitoring Device’ whilst Dr (Eng) T L Pradeep offered his thoughts on an innovative offering - ‘Low carbon Green building design and construction’.

Commenting on the event Dr. Mayura Jayasoma CEO and Technical Director, JLanka Technologies said, “We are pleased to have had the opportunity to be the main sponsor of this prestigious event. JLanka has always been a trend-setter in encouraging a new wave of innovative energy management solutions and Nanotechnology offers a new approach as seen through the dynamic and growing focus on research presented during the conference.”

“This is a particularly exciting time for research in all areas of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology,” Jayasoma noted. “Currently, potential and actual applications of nanotechnology in environmental technologies are receiving considerable attention worldwide. Relevant applications and resource saving technologies especially in energy will be particularly useful for protecting consumers and the environment in emerging economies such as Sri Lanka. JLanka is committed to supporting local and international cooperation in environmental nanotechnology research as part of a national knowledge economy,” he said.
Recently the company introduced the e-PRO1000, Sri Lanka’s first Smart meter device, helping residential and commercial sites manage and monitor electricity consumption. It is envisioned over 5.2 million local customers who face acute energy problems will benefit from this innovative smart meter.

To-date, JLanka’s total installed solar electricity capacity has now exceeded over 4 MW and is the number one solar energy supplier to the National Grid in Sri Lanka with over 15,000 kWh per day power generation.
