India’s UltraTech to boost construction industry in Sri Lanka

UltraTech Cement, a major player in the Sri Lankan Cement industry, retained its status as the No.1 cement company in India by scaling up its capacity from 48.75 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) in January 2012 to 69.61 MTPA in March 2015.

This information was divulged by the Survey of Cement Industry & Directory 2015 which is a single point reference source for all information needs regarding cement industry in India. After stringent and comprehensive evaluation on Indian cement industry the report stated that as at today UltraTech is the largest manufacturer of grey cement in India and is amongst the leading cement producers globally, thus claiming UltraTech as the cement leader of India.
UltraTech Cement Ltd, a part of US $41 billion Aditya Birla Group has also positioned itself as the 6th largest cement company in the world excluding China. The Group, which is in the “League of Fortune 500” has topped the Nielsen’s Corporate Image Monitor for the second time in 2013-2014 succeeding across six pillars of corporate performance, products and services, vision and leadership, workplace environment, financial performance, operating style and social responsibility.

The Group also emerged as the pacesetter way ahead of 40 corporates. UltraTech’s product portfolio encompasses grey cement, white cement, concrete, building products such as total waterproofing solution, ready mix plaster etc. and construction allied products such as water tanks, chemicals, tiles and PVC products.

With an aggregate capacity of 69.61 MTPA of grey cement, comprising of 66.61 MTPA in India and an overseas capacity of 3 MTPA UltraTech is up to date the largest cement manufacturer in India. Apart from India its operations span across UAE, Bahrain, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. UltraTech is also India’s largest exporter of cement reaching to meet the demand in countries across the Indian Ocean, Africa, Europe and Middle East. UltraTech’s capacity is contributed by 29 cement plants consisting of 24 plants in India and five overseas. The vision of UltraTech is to reach the production capacity of 100 MTPA by 2020.

UltraTech is also the largest producer of white cement in South East Asia and is also among the ten largest white cement manufacturers in the world. It also enjoys market leadership in Ready Mixed Concrete segment. The Building Products business of UltraTech is an innovation hub that offers an array of scientifically engineered products to cater to new age constructions. UltraTech Building Solutions is a retail format that caters to the end consumer providing a variety of primary construction materials under one roof.
