In the wake of a series of successes achieved last year, Horizon Campus known for its spacious and modern campus in Malabe, plans to ground break for another state of the art Campus which will be a BOI approved project during the year 2016. The campus is being developed in partnership with The Access Group of Companies.
Speaking of this initiative, the Chairman of Horizon Group of Companies Upul Daranagama stated “We thought carefully about what a world-class education campus would look like for our students whom we don’t aim to just produce as the next generation of innovators and technologists, but people who will have the skills and confidence to move beyond the familiar. So it’s only fitting that the campuses physical surroundings and facilities reflect that vision. The campus should be a place for discovery, alive with debate and critique, both intellectually and physically.
Therefore we will be investing in the newest tools and equipment, to create the perfect learning environment for students to study in.The campus is set to be complete in the year2018. At each phase, it’sdesign will follow key principles of creating an open and environmentally friendly experience from all vantage points, with a variety of open spaces, that will result in a livable, sustainable modern campus in a greener environment.
Our aim is also to be the best residential campus in the country that is designed in keeping with international standards. Our campusbuilt on an area of 15 acres will have the ability to house over 10,000 students.Itwill be a new type of urban campus that provides not only the space to think, but one that is also intimately integrated in both Vision and Mission and the design with the knowledge city of Malabe.In keeping with the mission of nurturing leaders with a broad base of experience and inspiration, it will use techniques of balancing buildings and open space, and active design elements to create healthy human environments. It will comprise of state-of-the-art classrooms, well equipped science and computer labs and an up to date fully equipped library and science laboratories.
The environmental quality of the campus will be closely monitored and maintained to offer flexible spaces that will facilitate easy communication, allowing students to work independently or in teams and will also bring students and faculty together to collaborate across different disciplines. In other words it will be a “Knowledge City and a Centre for Excellence”.The campus also promises to be one of the most environmentally friendly and energy-efficient campuses in the country.
He added “Ourresidential building will exemplify in setting new benchmarks in being affordable, sustainable, and built to last. It will be geared towards students who want to live on campus making it the“on-campus home” of students who live in outstations. Our aim is to offer talented students across the country to make the best of them and not be hampered by the location they live in when it comes to having better prospects for learning. It will also serve students from other countries such as Maldives, Nepal and Bangladesh and many other South Asian countries who we hope to attract to study at our campus. This in turn will bring in foreign revenue to the country and portray SriLanka as a very potential educational hub in the global arena which could result in some valuable opportunities for Sri Lanka.
