Hemas continued on its path of innovation by entering into a research agreement between Hemas Manufacturing (Pvt.) Ltd and Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC) to expand the personal care product portfolio by adding a revitalizing skin care solution.

The focus on innovation is centred upon the desire to push beyond the boundaries that Hemas has been respected for and this agreement harnesses the group’s Open Innovation strategy by tapping into external sources for research and development to fast-track growth for the years ahead.

The agreement is yet another chapter in the innovation initiatives which continue to build momentum for the group, adding on to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was signed with the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Colombo to focus on developing new products within the personal care space and the MoU with Sri Lanka Inventors Commission (SLIC) to unlock the potential of inventors and entrepreneurs who can add value to the national economy and further their business aspirations.

Hemas Manufacturing (Pvt.) Ltd is one of the key subsidiaries of the Hemas group and is driven by innovative brands such as Velvet, Kumarika, Baby Cheramy and Clogard that have evolved to become household names. The group has accelerated its growth strategies within its core business areas whilst developing an innovative culture for future growth.

SLINTEC is a public-private partnership between the Government of Sri Lanka and the private sector and is committed to assist the local industries in improving and developing products and processes to meet the demands of the local and international markets using nanotechnology and other advanced technology solutions.

Present at the signing of the agreement were: Hemas Managing Director Roy Joseph, R&D Director Dimuthu Jayasinghe, Director Innovation and New Business Dr. Himesh Fernando, Head of Corporate Finance Vathsala Wijekoon, Legal Consultant Maheshi Pieries. Representing SLINTEC were CEO Harin de Silva Wijeyeratne, Science Team Leader Prof. Nalin de Silva and representing the Business Development Team Rashmi Wijekoon.
