Jayantha Rajapakse, Managing Director of Unipower (Pvt) Ltd handing over newly launched Nanogreen product to Rasanga Perera, Director of Polwatta plant nursery
Until the middle of this century, the world’s population will have increased to 10 billion people. Every year, 160 million tons of fertilizer is being applied to agricultural lands to meet the ever increasing demand for food. Yet, most prevalent are synthetic fertilizers which pose numerous problems besides being processed from unsustainable resources like petroleum, phosphorous or potassium.
Over the past 28 years, Unipower Private Limited has pioneered sustainable agri technology innovations to the Sri Lankan specialized fertilizer industry. Extending its catalytic role in helping Sri Lankan farmers to improve yields and quality of crops, Unipower now introduces Nanogreen, an environment-friendly, minerals foliar plant nutrient, which is already being used by farmers all over the world.
Contrary to synthetic fertilizers which are made of fossil resources, Nanogreen is derived from natural Calcite mineral- a sedimented limestone which is a 100 percent natural product composed of calcium, silicon, magnesium and iron components.
“A lack of calcium in the soil could obviously be supplemented by Nanogreen foliar application. This places Nanogreen as an optimal calcium supplement to plants to reduce the lack of free lime, and thereby enhance crop yield, shelf life by accelerating plant nutrient supply and boosts the natural resistance of the crop, ”said Jayantha Rajapakse, Chairman and Managing Director of Unipower (Pvt) Ltd.
He added, “A particular advantage of Nanogreen compared to most fertilizers and plant stimulants is the considerably higher amount of Silicon. Thus it is possible to continuously feed the plants through the plant leaves already from the seedling stage to the harvest maturity even on sites with high pH value. The application of Nanogreen shortens the vegetation period while reducing the need for water, and act as preventive and repellent effect against harmful insects and diseases.”
AnuradhaRajapakse, Director Marketing of Unipower (Pvt) Ltd stated “Nanogreen is the local brand of the Australian Herbagreen brand products, which are ecologically certified, agricultural means of production that have proven outstanding results around the world. We hope that it will be an exciting innovation in the Sri Lankan agriculture industry, and promote the ecological production of healthy food.”
