Gamini Dharmawardena, acting Director General of the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) has been appointed as its new Director General.
Dharmawardana has been at the SLSI since 1984 and has held different posts such as Director (Systems Certification) and Director (Product Certification) within the institution.
He holds a BSc in Natural Science (Honours) from the University of Colombo and a Masters in Polymer Engineering from the University of Moratuwa as well as a post-graduate diploma in management from the Open University of Sri Lanka. He has vast experience in standardization and quality Management activities.
Dharmawardana has participated for many training programmes conducted in various countries and he is a Technical committee member of ISO/TC 176 and representing Sri Lanka for the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
Dharmawardana had his early education at Rahula College, Matara and Ananda College, Colombo 10.
He is a senior member of the American Society for Quality Control and member of the Rubber and Plastics Institute, Environmental Systems Users and Promoters Association. He is a council member of Sri Lanka Accreditation Board and was a board Director of Consumer Affairs Authority.
