The proposed free trade agreement between Sri Lanka and Singapore that is to be inked on January 22 received Cabinet approval yesterday.
The agreement, worked out after lengthy deliberations between the two countries for nearly two years, will be signed at an event to be attended by Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsieng Loong. The government launched the FTA in keeping with the election promise of linking the Sri Lankan economy with the global market.
Talks are currently underway to sign similar trade pacts with China, Malaysia and Bangladesh.
