The Canon photo marathon organized by Metropolitan PhotoHub Pvt Ltd on behalf of Canon will be held on November 19th,with the participation of over 300 photographers and more than 600 anticipated photo submissions on the day.

The event is a milestone in the Sri Lanka’s photography industry. Similar events have been organized in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia in previous years but this is the first time the event is being hosted by Sri Lanka.

“This is an open event for anyone who wants to participate. We have two categories. One is the student category and the other is the adult open category. The only criterion to participate is prior registration,” said Taslim Rahaman, Managing Director of Metropolitan PhotoHub Pvt Ltd.
The contest will have two parts where contestants will have the opportunity to take photographs and submit them under two themes selected on the day. The grand prize of the photo marathon is a fully paid photography learning trip to Japan together with a Canon EOS 6D professional
DSLR camera.
“This would be a similar experience to the Amazing race but this instance, the race is to capture the best photograph within a limited time frame,” said Mr.Rahaman.

A team of three independent judges will be selecting the winning photographs. They are Ravindra Ranasinghe, Panduka de Silva and Henry Rajakaruna.

Metropolitan PhotoHub have pioneered many events and promoted the growth of the photography industry and the tourism industry in Sri Lanka in the past. This event is another milestone in these initiatives and this time the beneficiaries wont only be the photography industry.

“We will be donating part of the registration fees to the blind school to develop brail text books for Advanced level students so Metropolitan or Canon is not making any profit from this initiative,” he said.

Metropolitan PhotoHub is a subsidiary of the Metropolitan Group, renowned for marketing top global brands such as Canon. Canon is a global leader in the imaging and printing industry spanning over 35
years globally.
