Association’s office bearers: IATA-AASL Immediate Past President Tillak Wickremasinghe, newly elected IATA-AASL President Channe Wijemanne and newly elected IATA-AASL Vice President Rizmi Reyal
George Steuart Travel Ltd Director/Chief Executive Officer Channe Wijemanne was elected as President of the IATA Agents Association of Sri Lanka (IATA-AASL).
He was elected to the post at the 29th annual general meeting (AGM) of the IATA-AASL, which was held recently in Muscat, Oman.
At the event, The Traveller Global (Pvt.) Ltd Chairman/Managing Director Rizmi Reyal was elected as Vice President.
In addition, the following persons were elected to the IATA-AASL Executive Council for the period of 2017/18: Aitken Spence Travels (Pvt.) Ltd General Manager Nishantha Senaveratne, Atlas Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd Managing Director S. Paramanathan, Classic Travels (Pvt.) Ltd Chief Executive Officer Suresh Mendis, Gabo Travels (Pvt.) Ltd Chief Executive Officer Faris Deen, Hayleys Travels & Tours (Pvt.) Ltd General Manager Niranjan Dalpethado, Hemas Travels (Pvt.) Ltd Director/General Manager Riza Ahamat, Himpras Tours (Pvt.) Ltd Managing Director Jude Condrad, Travel 7 (Pvt.) Ltd Chief Executive Officer Trevor Rajaratnam, Lando Travels (Pvt.) Ltd Managing Director M.L.C. Fernando, Skymark Travels (Pvt.) Ltd Managing Partner Rimzi Nazeer, 02nd Chance Travels (Pvt.) Ltd Managing Director Duminda Lowe and Skyways Proprietor Tillak Wickramasinghe as Immediate Past President.
In his address to the gathering of members, Wijemanne thanked all members for the trust placed in him in an era where travel was evolving at a great pace. He pledged to work closely with all industry partners so as to enable all stakeholders to have a greater degree of seamlessness and efficiency in executing their day-to-day work.
IATA-AASL was formed in 1988 as a body to represent the interests of the Sri Lankan travel agencies accredited by the International Air Transport Association. At present, IATA-AASL has a membership of 135.
The AGM was followed by cocktails and a dinner reception at Al Falaj Hotel with the presence of the sponsors Amadeus Lanka (Pvt.) Ltd, Oman Air and Fairfirst Insurance Limited.
