ITN joined hands with Abans for ‘Sooryabala Sangramaya’, an initiative to generate electricity using solar power to fulfill ITN’s energy consumption.
It is believed that by taking this step, ITN becomes the first large-scale media institution in South Asia to use solar energy as its one of the power sources.
It is expected to generate 100 KW during the first stage of this programme from the solar panels to be fixed on the new ITN building complex. This service alliance signed this week is worth Rs.16.2 million, in the first stage.
ITN ‘Sooryabala Sangramaya’ commenced following a concept of Power and Renewable Energy Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera and under the guidance of ITN Chairman Saman Athawudahetti.
ITN Chief Executive Officer Chandana Thilakarathna and Abans Chairperson Aban Pestonjee signed an alliance this week at the ITN auditorium initiating this timely venture.
