The government has taken a decision to enact a gazette notification that was issued in 2009, restricting vehice movement within the Galle Fort.
Galle Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Accordingly, vehicles higher than three meters and/or weighing over 5 tonnes will not be allowed to enter the Galle Fort from this month.
The decision was taken following an incident that took place this February, where a lorry crashed into the historical arch of the Galle Fort at the main entrance, causing considerable damage to it.
