Toastmasters of District 82 held the year end conference at the Infosys Campus in Mahindra City Chennai, India recently. The annual conference brought together over 200 toastmasters from Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka and the conference saw champions from each division of toastmasters compete in the International and Table Topics Speech contests.
Sandun Fernando from Smedley Toastmasters Club, Sri Lanka, won the Table Topics contest and Kaishika Rodrigo of Etisalat Toastmasters Club, Sri Lanka, won the International Speech Contest.
Rodrigo will represent District 82 at the World Championship of Public Speaking taking place at the Toastmasters International Convention in Washington DC, USA, from August 17 to 20, 2016. The specialty about this event is that Dhananjaya Hettiarachchi of Smedley Toastmasters Club, another Sri Lankan, won the World Championship of Public Speaking in 2014.
Arfath Saleem of Ralph Toastmasters Club competed at the World Championship in 2015 and made it to the Top 10 Speakers from across the world in the World Championship of Public Speaking 2015. Rodrigo is the first female contestant to represent District 82.
Toastmasters across India and Sri Lanka and especially fellow Sri Lankans, will be counting days to cheer for Rodrigo as she takes the stage and puts Sri Lanka on the map yet again. We wish her all the best for her contest.
