Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) and Mobitel have connected Lankagama, a village bordering the Sinharaja Forest Reserve, with high-speed 4G/LTE broadband and voices services.
“With this implementation, the Lankagama village is now powered with high-speed 4G broadband/LTE internet and improved Voice services, thereby enabling the people in and around the area to connect with their loved ones, hassle-free,” a SLT statement said.
Lankagama was in the news during the last few weeks due to a road construction controversy, which some environmentalist group alleged was detrimental to the Sinharaja rainforest, which is a UNESCO world heritage site.
President Gotabaya Rajapksa also visited Lankagama recently to gain first-hand information about the controversy. To mark the launching of the services SLT Group Chairman Rohan Fernando, TRCSL Director General Oshada Senanayake and SLT GCEO Lalith Seneviratne engaged in a live video conferencing with Lankagama Adarsha Kanishta Vidyalaya.
