The JVP today said it is the manner in which the government is planning to set up private universities that had made the JVP to oppose them although the party does not oppose private universities in principle.

“We are against the government move to set up private universities because the way they are doing it now will only result in the best lecturers joining private universities neglecting state universities” JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake said. (YP)

How could they so No to private UNIs when Tiran Alles is there? If they so no, JVP losses funds coming from Tiran and his GateWay.

    Ranjan Thursday, 28 October 2010 12:48 PM

Sorry its hard to read your Singlish!

Shantha Perera Thursday, 28 October 2010 12:56 PM

It is really stupidity, JVP took the country back by 25 years in 1971 and 30 years in 1989. now we are in 1955 and they are now trying to take back the country by 100 years by blocking private universities.

Mr. President ,pl do not listen to these traitors !!!!!!

    Tissamaharama Thursday, 28 October 2010 12:59 PM

Mr Anura Kumara Dissanayake, If your concern is that lecturers in state universities will be attracted to foreign universities with better pay packages, then there is ample justification to launch a struggle for better terms for the academic staff in local universities. Identify the problem before you act.

    Haramanis Thursday, 28 October 2010 01:14 PM

Whoa! Is this our former convener of IUSF talking?

    Senaka Thursday, 28 October 2010 01:17 PM

What is the use of these private universities now? WE LOST the Battle to India around 25 years ago. That's why they produce the world's best, and easily employed in the West. Every time Obama mentions highly qualified people he quotes the example of India. That's why Indians are hired all over the world. India has thousands of private Engineering colleges, Management colleges and hundreds of medical colleges. They have more than 50,000 English medium schools. We Lost the battle around 25 years ago. And that's why we have too many bandayyas and appuhamis without English. Only the privileged few get an education, the rest majority is several decades behind the world. JVP: you are our enemies!

    ww Thursday, 28 October 2010 01:22 PM

I think private universities must be started then only UGC can implement best policies in public universities. I am from JAPURA and now studying in in USA. Man look at the difference here and SL education. What we studied there ......... very sad about the future of students.

    Mudiyanse Thursday, 28 October 2010 02:23 PM

    AK !
why dont you give your proposels on " how to establish private univesities in principle ? "

    channa Thursday, 28 October 2010 03:11 PM

    Well said....

    Ronnie Thursday, 28 October 2010 04:37 PM

That's a silly point. In the US people don't even know what sri lanka is. By Obama saying "Indian" he means brown people in general.

    Lasi Thursday, 28 October 2010 06:07 PM

In the name of democracy you are crying for, any lecture has rights to choose his employer. Stop misleading masses.

    TMA Thursday, 28 October 2010 12:14 PM

    That should be the policy

    KD Thursday, 28 October 2010 08:24 PM

Yes. It's America and rest of the world mentality.

    Gamunu Thursday, 28 October 2010 08:48 PM

these guys are trying to drag the country toward primitive age....dam idiots !!!

Chow Chow Thursday, 28 October 2010 10:12 PM

The students joining the state universities will be the ones with high scores at the GCE ALs. The once joining the private universities will be the ones that can enter the stare universities. As such it is not much of a concern regarding the standard of the lecture. The smart student only needs to be shown the way,. The rest is his. The "not so smart" ones have to be spoon fed. As such the graduates from the state universities will have better opportunities than the ones from the private universities.

    ranjith Friday, 29 October 2010 01:07 AM

what a silly argument, even now the lesturers are leaving to foreign universities, can he stop them

    Ranjith

    nihal Friday, 29 October 2010 02:09 AM

Exactly, When I entered the University I got 236 Marks, while my room mate got 178 marks, he entered to Medical faculty while I was selected to Science faculty. Is it reasonable?

    nihal Friday, 29 October 2010 02:18 AM

I agree with you. These people try to say educated lecturers should get Rs. 40-65,000 only and struglle for ever in their life?

    RupasingheR Friday, 29 October 2010 04:16 AM

JVP is the curse to our higher education.

sinha ranasinha Friday, 29 October 2010 04:54 AM

    Hey Super JVP idiot,

That is the way those JVP donkeys and monkeys should handle.

    gamaya Friday, 29 October 2010 05:12 AM

Simply what he tried to say was,
lectures and students will get better choice with private universities but as far as we(JVP) are in opposition we can’t agree with the government.

    neville Friday, 29 October 2010 10:20 AM

If public universities are not closed down why are we worried. If anyone has money let them to study.Don't be jealous.

    SHAM Thursday, 28 October 2010 10:35 AM

This donkies support to some donkies are in very rich families who can go foreign universites with less marks in A/L. In middle class students can get good benifits from private universities who loose universities with few marks.

    pd Thursday, 28 October 2010 09:33 AM

just dont talk bullshit! JVP ruined our education which we had to cut short due to closing of schools!! remember da late 80's?? where jvp terrror at ots peak! bunch of idiots who shud be banned from srilankan politics

Afker Hussain Thursday, 28 October 2010 09:40 AM

Who cares what the JVP thinks ...Lets have Private Universities who will give out students better access to education which in turn will make them responsible academics AND NOT pawns of the JVP.

    nihal Thursday, 28 October 2010 09:45 AM

JVP SUPPORTERS SHOULD UNDERSTAND THAT THE JVP PREVENT MIDDLE CLASS FAMILIES OBTAINING HIGHER EDUCATION BUT ALLOWING THE UPPER CLASS TO OBTAIN IN ABROAD.

    gune Thursday, 28 October 2010 09:46 AM

    Daya Thursday, 28 October 2010 09:53 AM

Isn't it a good move to start a private parliment and absorb all of them in to that. Then hire fresh talents to the govt system.

knight rider Thursday, 28 October 2010 10:01 AM

at least he is acknowledging the fact they are the ones behind all the current chaos. the Jathika Virus Peramuna always talks crap and only fools like them will agree to such crap.

    mohandev Thursday, 28 October 2010 10:03 AM

from which mouth are they talking, already so many privet universities offering foreign degrees for money is a profitable business in sl. what did JVP do about it ????

    sam Thursday, 28 October 2010 10:14 AM

Though I dont entirely agree with JVP, their attempt to raise voice aginst to pressurize gov without giving in to perks offered must be greatly praised. These ppl very well sit in the gov side as did wimal. So isnt it worth thinkig? Remember
today everything seems dobious as the gov has lost credibility. So it important to gurentee fair-play.

    kosala Thursday, 28 October 2010 10:18 AM

    WHAT IS THIS IDIOT SAYING???
“We are against the government move to set up private universities because the way they are doing it now will only result in the best lecturers joining private universities neglecting state universities”

Then isn't he saying public universities god awful and that why they are jumping ship ?? isn't he also saying that the useless staff will remain ??

Don't this beggar like his beggar supporters realize that makes a case for private universities ?

    Dilshan Thursday, 28 October 2010 10:29 AM

words... is always what they have !!!!
why are your contradicting your own statements,,, and depriving the middle class of better education. Its not fare when a student in Colombo gets equal marks dies not get selected but, a person with the lowest marks get selected from another district. Why dont you talk about that unfairness

    sam Thursday, 28 October 2010 10:30 AM

Do u think middle class ppl can afford to send their children to private universities? Let there emerge prit universitiesbut safe guard the Free education which is the only source for me and my middle class.

    iddasiri Thursday, 28 October 2010 10:33 AM

We have only tuition education not free education below university level and why not private universiite

    migara Thursday, 28 October 2010 09:25 AM

Another word game by JVPers to hoodwink masses

    Abu Thursday, 28 October 2010 11:06 AM

Why would the teachers join Pvt universities? because pay, administration and facilities would be better. So instead of protesting the pvt universities, he SHOULD be proposing how pulic uni's can improve to compete. He just embodied the 'lindey-gemba' lankan mentality perfectly.

Top Sri Lankan Thursday, 28 October 2010 11:10 AM

I am not a socialist , i very well know these policies will never work, BUT we need to have JVP'ers in the opposition.

    Saradial Thursday, 28 October 2010 11:20 AM

JVPers are good fortune tellers (Lol)

    Saradial Thursday, 28 October 2010 11:26 AM

For the argument even if only rich get chance in private university whats wrong in it, they spend their money and study? at least we can redus sending money out of country.

when private university comes, rich will not compete for National University and competition will reduce, poor students will get more chance for higher education.

Mohamed Shafraz Thursday, 28 October 2010 11:33 AM

@"lecturers joining private universities" does JVP think we are lack of Scholars? There are lot, if Private University started most Sri Lankan teach in foreign Universities may return.

Why don't you fight for Increase facilities and salary for lectures, rather then try to stop Private University.

    Wara Thursday, 28 October 2010 11:56 AM

    Good point.

    Saradial Thursday, 28 October 2010 12:05 PM

Yes not in power! even better if they out of parliament.

    sanka Thursday, 28 October 2010 12:06 PM

I dont know what this idiot talking about. I think we should privatalize all the state universities under government supervision and add more private universities and open them to compete with each other. Right now only entering 10,000 students, so goverment can give them full scholarships fallowed by half schols according to marks their getting and others can pay and go to the universities. It will save all the money going out of the country. Also this will create good higher education system
