Sri Lankan vice captain Angelo Mathews said as a team they made a lot of mistakes throughout the series.
“We made a lot of mistakes and that was the downfall. We played badly in crucial moments and that reflects in the result,” Mathews told media after yesterday’s match.
He also said, “It was encouraging to see youngsters taking the responsibility. We gave away far too many runs and that cost us the match in the end.”
Indian captain MS Dhoni, who played a splendid innings said, “Gambhir and Tiwary gave us a nice platform to play our strokes. It was a good pitch and the ball was coming nicely.”
Dhoni however, showed concern over the bowling department, he said, “We need to improve in both departments especially bowling. It was good to see that our batsmen looked to play long innings as that provided extra cushion to the bowlers.”
Irfan Pathan became the first Indian fast bowler in five years to pick up a five-wicket haul and it was his efforts in the end which took India home. Irfan who was selected the man of the match for his performance was not too satisfied with his bowling.
“I have been bowling well in this series. In today’s match I bowled a lot of bad deliveries and was a bit lucky to get all these wickets.” (Indian Sports News Network)
IT WAS PRESSURE FROM MR TO LOSE THE SERIES DUE TO THE PROBLEMS HE FACED IN INDIA AT PRESENT , HE ASKED TO LOSE IT , NOTHING OTHER THAN THAT

I find that the Sri Lankans somehow manage to find lame excuses when they fare badly. You guys take a cue from the Australians - they are a very consistent team, whether they have seniors or juniors playing.
Prasannajit Monday, 06 August 2012 04:22 AM
First mistake is giving another chance to Kapugedera. it is never ending. It seems Malinga is under preasure whenever he plays against India due to IPL commitments.
Takiya Monday, 06 August 2012 04:33 AM
We want cricket with Pakistan! Pakistan is a country which respects ALL minorities and DOES NOT persecute POOR SUFFERING MUSLIMS (TM) like India does!
Kalana Monday, 06 August 2012 04:18 AM
I guess lack of experience for Thirimanna & Jeevan, anyway they did fantastic job. I think we gave enough chances to Kapugedara and Chandimal. Find some more young guys. I guess bowling changes better than Mahela. Anyway, try to learn from Arjuna Ranatunga about captancy. No one than him.
Aney Machang Monday, 06 August 2012 04:48 AM
The luck eluded the SL team, and this resulted in defeats. We must take the positives from this tour, youngsters like, Chandimal, Jeewan, Pradeep are future stars. Please do not loose heart for the SL team.
Mohammed Jihad Sunday, 05 August 2012 08:36 AM
you always making many mistakes..no need to publish.. why you people not giving chances for Jeevan Mandis from the first match..he is a active young guy.. what happent to Chandi? once Kula, Sanga return then it's strong under Mahale captancy..
kapa ta pissu Monday, 06 August 2012 03:31 PM
SRILANKA itself a mistake...so take it easy boy. You will learn through these mistakes to be a great leader unlike these political leaders. They don't learn through mistakes. They never learn or make a worst mistake. You are young, talented and ambitious. Keep going mate
Johne Sunday, 05 August 2012 09:18 AM
I think that this isn't bad luck at all! it's a carless.......
peeda mossa Sunday, 05 August 2012 09:14 AM
Never mind the defeat, Angelo. Even without our two super stars, you and the boys almost snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, and thank you all for giving us a thrilling match up to the last ball. The required run rate was kept well under 7 except for 2 overs in mid-30's. I guess the main contributor to our downfall was the lack of communication between batsmen (loud calling / eye contact) when taking sharp singles. Better luck next time, guys.
Bandu Monday, 06 August 2012 05:05 AM
Angelo all your efforts just wasted by playing Kapugedera. Cannot understand why you play this guy when there are so many youngsters awaiting for a place.
Conrad Nicholas Sunday, 05 August 2012 09:44 AM
Sri Lanka was simply bashed by India. Malinga is simply pathetic.
money in vain Monday, 06 August 2012 05:18 AM
why can't you guys have an understanding about your weeknesses before the match...? all ways talking about mistakes after losing...it could help save our money...no matter we lose one or two matches but not like this...
ANURA Monday, 06 August 2012 05:23 AM
Mathews, just get on with your job on a positive note.Forget about the old stars ,try to build the team with youngsters. Old stars will leave soon to milk the IPL. You better also get away from IPL without getting injured by trying to work for IPL bosses Your fitness is essential if you are to be a srilankan captain. So donot wreck your leg in IPL engagements.
lalith Sunday, 05 August 2012 09:58 AM
playing kapugedara was the biggest mistake.... chandimal needs alot of work on his foot work... he looks like he gets scared and clueless when the ball comes to his pads... plus its time v got a new fielding coach...
Ami Sunday, 05 August 2012 09:59 AM
Sri Lanka needs to be disciplined in all departments, batting, bowling & specially in fielding. If catches were not dropped and run out chances not missed Sri Lanka may have achieved 4-1. Jayawardane's silly scoop on the 4th ODI was unexcusable. It's too early for him to use that. Being the captain and without Sanga playing he should have steadied the innings first. Anyhow bygones ...... Good luck in future.
Kiris Baba Amaray Sunday, 05 August 2012 10:12 AM
No Mathews you are wrong. Under your captaincy you and your boys did well than Mahela. You did your part well as a captain and no-one can pin point you. Its cricket and its your first game as captain, don't worry too much.
weha Sunday, 05 August 2012 09:56 AM
And there is a big difference between the ways they play for SL and IPL
Godagampala Rohana Sunday, 05 August 2012 10:14 AM
We welcome our new capt. Mathews. Sorry, Mahela you better retire from cricket and leave room for youngsters to come up.
Ken Sunday, 05 August 2012 10:17 AM
Mistakes are fine as long as we learn from them.....
Namiq Azhar Monday, 06 August 2012 05:37 AM
You played well in the match, no doubt. Only mistake was "communication" between players, that was not there in your team. At the stage wherewe were in a winning postion, when Thirimanne and Jeewan Mendis, were batting, the silly run out made the loss. What Jeewan Mendis should have done he should have run out and paved the way to Thirimanne to continue, as he was in good batting form. Jeewan Mendis did not have that team cooperation although he apologized the error. He should have sacrificed his wicket for a "SRI LANKAN WIN". Any wish you all the best in the T20 for a winning team performance.
Amarathunga chandika Sunday, 05 August 2012 10:17 AM
First match as a captain, its OK Mathews, you gave a nice fight against the strongest Indian team, which Mahela could-not do. The youngsters will co-operate with you in the next games to come, I mean T20 world cup..
Bikechain Bubbleband Sunday, 05 August 2012 10:20 AM
God bless you Anjelo. You are a talented Cricketer and you will have a bright future than any captains we had.
Jagath Sunday, 05 August 2012 10:41 AM
They always make mistakes. Never try to correct their mistakes. What a foolish run out yesterday.????? Being the captain he should have been more careful due to the situation at that time.
Nelum W Monday, 06 August 2012 06:09 AM
You guys keep doing the same mistake over & over again .For God sake get out of this money making IPL saga ..it's ruining your cricketing career's .you call that "cricket ' ??? it's like village people playing elle. what damage it has done to this beautiful 'Gentleman's game".
SAD Wednesday, 08 August 2012 01:56 AM
This is typical Sri Lanka style. Can't blame anybody or expect more. Sri Lanka Cricket is LUCK BY CHANCE CRICKET. No improvement even with world coaches....Good luck.
True chritian Monday, 06 August 2012 06:17 AM
to many mistakes, just like your a mistake
lioen Jayatunge Monday, 06 August 2012 06:25 AM
Whe are you and all others going to learn from mistakes. That is what important.
Senna Sunday, 05 August 2012 11:59 AM
At least you accepted the mistakes. But now motivate the guys like Match winners Tissara to stick to target without careless blood rushing shots. These things must be discussed in team meetings. Mendis should be a permanent player in ODI ' s now.
truth Sunday, 05 August 2012 12:03 PM
Bunch of IPL players in SL team did a great favour to IND by loosing the matches. Shame you all!
M.V.R.Perera Monday, 06 August 2012 06:40 AM
why not blame the selectors who got kapugedera into the quad after scoring two ducks for our A team and our team did very well when considering the 2 umpiring decision made by our umpire as usual and the foreign a unusual phenomena but the batting of Thirimana was a treat to watch but run out due to no fault of his which was the turning point of the match
fareed Sunday, 05 August 2012 12:09 PM
pls say somethings different
andy Monday, 06 August 2012 07:04 AM
Who put Kapugedara to the team?? is it Mr.20% in the selection comitee that was intrumented in doing so.
jay Monday, 06 August 2012 07:16 AM
take some yong tamil , will come win to SL
jatheesh Monday, 06 August 2012 07:29 AM
India persecute minority. I am wondering if you are sound mentally. Indian's two main opening bowlers are Zaheer and Pathan who are muslims. Sharukh Khan, Salman Khan, Amir Khan, still many more khans are super stars in India. Mohd. Azharuddin was a successful captain. It is Pakistan and Sri Lanka who persecute minorities. How many tamils are popular amongst sinhalese.
jay Monday, 06 August 2012 07:34 AM
wht about last ASIA CUP, U ALL GOT HAPPY BECOZ SL LOST
HAMID Monday, 06 August 2012 07:35 AM
The Biggest mistake was making flat tracks which helped their batters to feast. Only match we won beacuase it was a bowling friendly pitch. You cannot beat India with flat pitches since their batters are more superior to us. We have to be choosy with each team in prpearing the tracks
TM Lal Monday, 06 August 2012 07:37 AM
As a team you did reasonably well, despite very poor umpiring decisions gone against SL at very crucial time of the game. Manoj Thiwary nicked twice and well caught by Chandimal, but surprisingly umpires did not hear them. We saw very pathetic umpiring especially the one from Sri Lankan umpire. Although the team did reasonably well your contribution was almost zero. Your wrong judgment of going for that single has cost your wicket and your bowling was very ordinary on this day. If we want to win on SL soil we should not field SL umpires. Time and time again it is proved that they are the poorest umpires on the earth.
pissu pusa Monday, 06 August 2012 07:49 AM
Chandimal Scored 55 runs in the series dude !! what are you talking about?
Aravinda Monday, 06 August 2012 08:00 AM
Angelo,You look good as the captain in your first match. You were let down by others like Malinga and Dilshan. The way Malinga bowled, I always thought he didn't want to hurt indian hearts too much for some reason. He wasn't aggressive at all .Dilshan would have played with more responsibility and you threw your wicket as well. This is all about the uncertain game of cricket and it works one day and not the other day.No doubt you have the potential to become a wonderful captain. All the best.
Al Rasa Monday, 06 August 2012 07:59 AM
Also remember that present Sri Lankan team's bowlers bowl only few good deliveries and many loose bowls. If you can eradicate it including within your own bowling it will help you all to have a good come back.
MH Monday, 06 August 2012 08:28 AM
I hope you will learn from these mistakes you are talking and convert those defeats in to Victory. Its much more healthy that way rather than winning thinking all is right and loosing not knowing whats happening.I think Malinga should be diciplined by leaving him out of the squad for sometime.
criclover12 Monday, 06 August 2012 09:06 AM
Congrats India....One can simply say...India is better team....They are world champs...there is no reason to blame others.... because recent Sri Lankan matches will tell how sri lankan team playing...
Anil Monday, 06 August 2012 09:12 AM
Malinga bowls better for Mumbai than for Sri lanka . Kapugedara plays coz he is from the Sports Minister's home town.
Senna Monday, 06 August 2012 09:24 AM
Tissara Perera can win matches and also will lose matches too for SL. One egsample is last match because of his careless stroke all changed and in vain. If he sticked there scoring run a ball we would have won the match easily. Please advise him accordingly. All fans love him and had hopes but he shattered them?
Rajeev Monday, 06 August 2012 09:26 AM
Accepting the mistake is very good habit & fixed the solution is the leadership!!!dnt give up
Siri Monday, 06 August 2012 09:47 AM
don't worry you all are not done any mistake, selectars made big mistake selecting Kapu for the match with out considering his performence.
Saman Tuesday, 07 August 2012 03:28 AM
We all make mistakes. Learn from that and be strong.
Lenny Cramer Monday, 06 August 2012 10:56 AM
IPL did the talking during the series
Nodrog Monday, 06 August 2012 11:06 AM
The team made mistakes???No kidding, we couldn't tell.
Remo Monday, 06 August 2012 11:25 AM
What the hell are you talking about??? People like you only start the problems between races in this world...
Nishan Monday, 06 August 2012 11:22 AM
Why no one is talking about Tharanga , whats d hell we are having Tharanga , he is not a fielder and Bowler too now even not a Batsman too. whenever he is out , SL wins. He brings all the bad luck to the team kapugedara is d biggest bullshit . Now Mahela should retire let Sanga and Dilshan to be in the team to just guide our youngsters. We can make SL is a good young Cricket team
Yehiya Monday, 06 August 2012 12:26 PM
Not your mistake. Mistake of the administration.
