Sri Lankan vice captain Angelo Mathews said as a team they made a lot of mistakes throughout the series.

“We made a lot of mistakes and that was the downfall. We played badly in crucial moments and that reflects in the result,” Mathews told media after yesterday’s match.

He also said, “It was encouraging to see youngsters taking the responsibility. We gave away far too many runs and that cost us the match in the end.”
Indian captain MS Dhoni, who played a splendid innings said, “Gambhir and Tiwary gave us a nice platform to play our strokes. It was a good pitch and the ball was coming nicely.”

Dhoni however, showed concern over the bowling department, he said, “We need to improve in both departments especially bowling. It was good to see that our batsmen looked to play long innings as that provided extra cushion to the bowlers.”

Irfan Pathan became the first Indian fast bowler in five years to pick up a five-wicket haul and it was his efforts in the end which took India home. Irfan who was selected the man of the match for his performance was not too satisfied with his bowling.

“I have been bowling well in this series. In today’s match I bowled a lot of bad deliveries and was a bit lucky to get all these wickets.” (Indian Sports News Network)

why not blame the selectors who got kapugedera into the quad after scoring two ducks for our A team and our team did very well when considering the 2 umpiring decision made by our umpire as usual and the foreign a unusual phenomena but the batting of Thirimana was a treat to watch but run out due to no fault of his which was the turning point of the match

The Biggest mistake was making flat tracks which helped their batters to feast. Only match we won beacuase it was a bowling friendly pitch. You cannot beat India with flat pitches since their batters are more superior to us. We have to be choosy with each team in prpearing the tracks

As a team you did reasonably well, despite very poor umpiring decisions gone against SL at very crucial time of the game. Manoj Thiwary nicked twice and well caught by Chandimal, but surprisingly umpires did not hear them. We saw very pathetic umpiring especially the one from Sri Lankan umpire. Although the team did reasonably well your contribution was almost zero. Your wrong judgment of going for that single has cost your wicket and your bowling was very ordinary on this day. If we want to win on SL soil we should not field SL umpires. Time and time again it is proved that they are the poorest umpires on the earth.

Angelo,You look good as the captain in your first match. You were let down by others like Malinga and Dilshan. The way Malinga bowled, I always thought he didn't want to hurt indian hearts too much for some reason.He wasn't aggressive at all .Dilshan would have played with more responsibility and you threw your wicket as well. This is all about the uncertain game of cricket and it works one day and not the other day.No doubt you have the potential to become a wonderful captain.All the best.

Also remember that present Sri Lankan team's bowlers bowl only few good deliveries and many loose bowls. If you can eradicate it including within your own bowling it will help you all to have a good come back.

I hope you will learn from these mistakes you are talking and convert those defeats in to Victory.Its much more healthy that way rather than winning thinking all is right and loosing not knowing whats happening.I think Malinga should be diciplined by leaving him out of the squad for sometime.

Tissara Perera can win matches and also will lose matches too for SL. One egsample is last match because of his careless stroke all changed and in vain. If he sticked there scoring run a ball we would have won the match easily. Please advise him accordingly. All fans love him and had hopes but he shattered them?

Never mind the defeat, Angelo. Even without our two super stars,you and the boys almost snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, and thank you all for giving us a thrilling match up to the last ball. The required run rate was kept well under 7 except for 2 overs in mid-30's. I guess the main contributor to our downfall was the lack of communication between batsmen (loud calling / eye contact) when taking sharp singles. Better luck next time, guys.

Sri Lanka needs to be disciplined in all departments,batting, bowling & specially in fielding. If catches were not dropped and run out chances not missed Sri Lanka may have achieved 4-1. Jayawardane's silly scoop on the 4th ODI was unexcusable. It's too early for him to use that. Being the captain and without Sanga playing he should have steadied the innings first. Anyhow bygones ...... Good luck in future.

You played well in the match, no doubt. Only mistake was "communication" between players, that was not there in your team. At the stage wherewe were in a winning postion, when Thirimanne and Jeewan Mendis, were batting, the silly run out made the loss. What Jeewan Mendis should have done he should have run out and paved the way to Thirimanne to continue, as he was in good batting form. Jeewan Mendis did not have that team cooperation although he apologized the error. He should have sacrificed his wicket for a "SRI LANKAN WIN". Any wish you all the best in the T20 for a winning team performance.
