Up to a 20 per cent increase on water bills will come into effect from next month,Water Board General Manager Lal Premnath said. “We have not yet finalised what the percentage increase for domestic users but they will be billed on varying slabs depending on the use of water by a household,” he said.

Mr. Premnath said the tariffs for water consumption for commercial purposes will be increased by 15 per cent, for small industries by five per cent and water sold to ships by 20 per cent. There will be no increase in water bills for places of religious worship and hospitals.(Hafeel Farisz)

Why not get the over ministers who are getting free electricity, free water, free petrol every 5 years a car permit to pay for the water hike for domestic consumers

    Sue Friday, 21 September 2012 05:23 AM

Why are people complaining? By now they know what to expect and yet they keep voting for this Govt. over and over again. I say this country and its people deserve everything they get because obviously that's what they want.

    CITIZEN Friday, 21 September 2012 04:54 AM

Yes, until another Election, we will have to expect many more like this - Electricity; Gas; Fuel; etc. etc. ... as the Government knows very well "we are all grass-eating human-haraks" who can be easily FOOLED, and FOOLED WITH VALUE ADDITION!!!

Basic need water is also increased. What next after this?. God only knows. We have to suffer but the politicians will amass wealth and enjoy free ride on our tax.

    TrueSL Thursday, 20 September 2012 04:05 PM

Good move... Many people pay Rs.50-60 for a 1litre bottled water without any hesitation. But have you ever calculated the treated water tariff for 1litre by water board?
For me, last month, it was just Rs.77 for a whole 6000 litres. Water is a precious and limited resource....

peeda mossa Thursday, 20 September 2012 10:45 AM

Even a 200% increase won't stop the wastage in our households. Only the guy who pays the bills use water economically, the others just don't care a damn !
