Volkswagen plant in SL as planned-PM

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said in Parliament that the German government has assured that the Volkswagen Company has not suspended work and therefore steps would be taken to establish an assembly plant in Kuliyapitiya soon.
The government information department quoting the Premier also said that within 2 years the factory will commence operations. “Volkswagen investment came to the country before 2015,” the Premier had said.
In response to a question, raised by opposition MP Udaya Gammanpila in Parliament, Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam the Volkswagen agency in Sri Lanka has already purchased the selected land for the factory.
“The company has made an investment of 265 million US Dollars and it will create around 200 job opportunities,” Minister of Development strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickema said.

    Volkswagen was asked for HUGE bribes (over $5 Mil) by the Rajapaksha looters. Thats why they didnt build it earlier.
