Our children are growing up understanding that Violence, Intimidation, Thuggery, Corruption and everything evil is the way to success.

In cultures like Sri Lanka role models are very important to minds. Therefore when our children see how politicians get away with anything, they grow up wanting to emulate such behaviour. This is not surprising !

Everyone can see a disastrous pattern. Everyone has different perspectives and opinions. Everyone has a legitimate point if one chooses to read selectively. No one however, seems to know what to do about the. As a start, how about we begin with our own homes and ourselves, work on things we have a relative degree of control over...

    Hasiya Wednesday, 20 October 2010 07:04 AM

Its NOT only in Sri Lanka... Its All over the world

    willow Wednesday, 20 October 2010 07:44 AM

    upul Wednesday, 20 October 2010 08:10 AM

This is not Sri Lanka, JVP and UNP needs to do this and they are doing this. See the good things also in the country. I think U have a brain to see the good side as well.

    polkiccha Wednesday, 20 October 2010 08:17 AM

it's funny to see Sri Lankans talk as if violence exists only in Sri Lanka. violence in schools is a major issue in even the developed world.
humans by nature are violent but you guys make these useless comments when you see a news you are like village women who gossip on the roadsides.

    polkiccha Wednesday, 20 October 2010 08:17 AM

    lin madiya

    polkiccha Wednesday, 20 October 2010 08:22 AM

1.Sri Lanka is a really bad place
    2. Violence exists only in Sri Lanka and other few places. there's no violence in the developed world
    3. School Children in SL were never violent they were angels only now they are violent.
    4. this is the first time a student was attacked by fellow students
    5. what is happening to SL?
    6. the govt is to blame for this
7 if SF was in power this wouldnt have happened.

    prabath Wednesday, 20 October 2010 06:32 AM

a lot of Problems will occure in future, if the students of schools are not disciplined properly at school level.

Moratu Puthek Wednesday, 20 October 2010 08:32 AM

Ha Ha HA you see only what is done by the opposition.
What about the things the ruling party politicians did ?
Gas Benda, Threatening the high priests , crashing the vehicles of monks, assaulting the govt. officials by the thugs of the ministers, arresting the students hooted at a minister
These are just a very few examples.
When wetting your comments do not take only side.

Tm Abay Wednesday, 20 October 2010 09:47 AM

Oh! c'mon guys. This's nothin new. Even we fought in schools when we were kids. Anyway the police have every right 2 arrest these bullies. After all it's an assault on a minor commited by minors

black topa Wednesday, 20 October 2010 10:01 AM

    Polkiccha 07 is absolutely correct.

    AFF Wednesday, 20 October 2010 10:18 AM

According to my calculations, the number comes to 69.86% not 70%.

    Gobbaya Wednesday, 20 October 2010 10:20 AM

i'm surprised you didn't blame the west for this.
and although the media can now shed light on this subject, people love blaming current politicians ignoring the fact that this is far from being a recent phenomenon. violence in schools have been common for generations

    Riz Wednesday, 20 October 2010 11:15 AM

    Darren,
This is not because only of JVP & UNP. Because of PA as well. Every politician is to be blamed. Not only them. The public also responsible for these. MR to PooR, Ranil to Anil, Sarath to Gamlath

    Watchman Wednesday, 20 October 2010 12:02 PM

I doubt any politics here. We should not try to link politics in each and every case.

    sunila Thursday, 21 October 2010 01:46 AM

Asela is right .If you analyse the violent rampage you have to go back to 30 years war more prominantly the Rajapakse War which was televised over the State televisions giving a one to one commentary showing aeial bombing, multi barrel guns taking the lives out of civilians though known as a humanitarian war. No former governments ever capitalised so much of a war. What we are witnessing now is the result that that there is no negotiations but hit tight after a an argument.

    malkanthi Wednesday, 20 October 2010 05:41 AM

Root cause is Hamuduruvo is not preaching Bana today but politics, violence and division!

    BackstreetBoy Wednesday, 20 October 2010 05:24 AM

Good Move. These student fights should be stopped at school level and they should be disciplined properly to avoid similar issues in the future and maintain peace in our education system

    wasala Wednesday, 20 October 2010 05:25 AM

youngsters follow adults. JVP is setting a very good example to young school children. Way to go!

    archis Wednesday, 20 October 2010 05:26 AM

well said.....i totally agree with you....its never too late for the time to come

    Saradial Wednesday, 20 October 2010 05:28 AM

    Preparing for University entrance?

    Darren Wednesday, 20 October 2010 05:31 AM

Thanks to UNP and JVP who encourage people to violate Law and order.Ranil is telling Colombo citizens not to pay rates JVP is telling University Students to storm offices and attack and kill officials.Attack opponents with Computer monitors and crush their heads.Yet they demand that the police should not take any action against those.ah Monks trying to change the Law.This is outrages.

Smart Aleck Wednesday, 20 October 2010 05:37 AM

Exactly! Thanks to those morons in Parliament setting an example. Let us derogate from some of this Human Rights and Children's Rights bullshit and reintroduce Corporal Punishment. The earlier generations lived with it successfully.

    Fayad Wednesday, 20 October 2010 05:40 AM

If this is not stop at school levels, at what level are we going to stop thuggery @ Walikada???????

    Lanka Wednesday, 20 October 2010 05:41 AM

Gosh what is happening in Sri Lanka! Is Sri Lanka becoming another Haiti?

    asela Wednesday, 20 October 2010 05:17 AM

See the pattern - first in parliament, then on roads, next at universities, now at schools

next at homes - you will see yourself fighting with your wife, husband, children and killing eachother.

    This is Sri lanka

    wasala Wednesday, 20 October 2010 05:48 AM

malkanthi, Root cause is not hamuduruwo but hambantota.

    shanthi Wednesday, 20 October 2010 05:56 AM

this has to be stopped at school levels , each parent , teachers , principals must disciplined the children from home to school n then at universities , also each of us must learn to live with harmony, unity is the most important thing to follow ,.

    Minister Wednesday, 20 October 2010 05:56 AM

This shows how children follow the examples of the leaders. Don't blame them.

    Ramzeel Wednesday, 20 October 2010 06:03 AM

education in Sri Lanka. Young minds get tempted with romance and any intrusions end in fisticuffs. Coming colours no good.

    DHA Wednesday, 20 October 2010 06:10 AM

    Now entered schools too....!!!

    Rila Wednesday, 20 October 2010 06:16 AM

You are 70% correct and schools are not teaching discipline but bent in making Doctors, Engineers , Lawyers etc. . devoid of noble human qualities. This attributes to the balance30%.

    AZ Wednesday, 20 October 2010 06:24 AM

All six of these students will destroy public property & take part in violent protests in future
