UNP MP Karu Jayasuriya said today the terms of executive Presidency was extended not on the people’s request but for the personal gain of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

Mr. Jayasuriya said increasing the power of the authorities was a comic story.

He said the authorities in Sri Lanka were trying to increase the power while other countries are trying to devolve it.

Taking steps to taking off the provisions of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution and appointing Parliament Select Committees to investigate the Constitutional issues were done without considering the issues with regard to the 13th Amendment, he said.

“The government has created a myth and we would not gain our independence and democracy until we get rid of this myth. We do not see any honesty in the government,” he said. (Chaturanga Pradeep and Lahiru Pothmulla-DM Online)

UNP didn't do much in past as the opposition party. Atleast they are informing people.
    Are SL's ready for this.

it is true.....what is the alternate remedy?

So what is the difference? Even J.R. Jayawardane introduced this Executive Presidency purely for personal gain and not for the love for the country. It is the UNP that created this monster. But now they lament because the power is with the opposition. If the UNP was in power the tune would have been different.
