Political forces should come on a common platform to oppose the incumbent President from contesting the Presidential polls which was illegal, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) said.

“This is a completely illegal and unconstitutional move and therefore all democratic forces should oppose this attempt of the incumbent to contest for a third term,” JVP General Secretary Tilvin Silva told a news conference today.

“We can’t keep mum when the first citizen of the country violates the Constitution,” he said.

He said they had not decided to contest at a Presidential Election as it would be illegal to hold one under the present circumstances.

“If we took part in the election, that means we are accepting the election,” he said.

“We will first attempt to stop holding an election and if the President proceeds with an election, we will decide what political action we should take to defeat him,” he said. (Lahiru Pothmulla and Sanath Desmond)

If it is illegal go to International Courts and seek assistance because there is no law and order in this country.
