At a ceremony to mark World Indigenous People’s Day, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said indigenous people were no longer considered as display items.

He handed over land deeds to the Veddhas at the ceremony held in Henanigala at Dehiattakandiya in Ampara.

The President said Veddhas were facing difficulties because of outside interference in their unique life style. (Wasantha Chandrapala)

This is funny. Here in Weliweriya people who asked for clean drinking water were shot at and brutally assaulted by the Government. The President goes to Dehiattakandiya and gives lands to the Veddhas. What a hipocracy?
