UNP undermined by double games: Sajith

The United National Party (UNP) is being destroyed by certain members who publicly call for unity within the party while secretly undercutting others to safeguard their party posts, party front-liner Sajith Premadasa said.

He said this had undermined the expectations of those members who were longing to see the UNP forming a government.

“Underhand activities of some cut-throats continue to shatter the dreams of loyal members who have stood by the party for more than 20 years through thick and thin hoping to see the party winning an election,” Mr. Premadasa said.

He said unifying party members was a welcome and laudable move but it should be a genuine effort. “Such a genuine effort to bring about unity in the party is essential at a time like this when the party is facing an election,” Mr. Premadasa said and added that the UNP had to face realities and it was high time that the party brought about a radical change into its thinking.

He said it was unfair to undercut those who made a genuine effort to encourage UNP members to go to the polling stations in previous elections.

“It is agonizing to see how the UNPers at grass roots level are suffering because of the disunity within the party and it is high time the party is properly reformed to put it on a victorious footing,” Mr. Premadasa said. (Yohan Perera)

Can believe everything if you at least won a Pradeshiya Sabha for the party. I bet you would not contest a District which has some established UNP'ers.
