UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake has requested Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya to take action against banquets held by the ruling UPFA targeting the upcoming local government election.

In a letter addressed to the Polls Chief, Mr. Attanayake has warned that failure to take action against the violation of election laws have resulted in the increase of such incidents, “Such undemocratic acts would have dire consequences on the country,” he said in his letter.

He said conducting a free and fair election had become a dream in an environment where there was continuous violation of election laws. Mr. Attanayake finally requested the polls Chief to ensure a free and fair election using the powers given to him to the maximum.

Here we go, UNP introduced buying votes for Lunch packets and now these Bath Gotta's are worried bcos it is going to work against them.

Requesting the elections commissioner to ensure a free and fair election is like pouring water on a ducks back. Whoever the man his bootlicking is the same.

Those who called the UNPers "Bath Gottas" are the very same people who enjoyed the free ration of rice given by Dudley's Government and then insulted him with epitaphs like "Piti Bahu" and "Patcha Bahu". They even demonstrated with loaves of bread stuck on poles and throwing those to the sea at Galle Face when Sirimavo promised them "rice from moon". In no time, they were made to suffer in Bread Queues with their ration book at the crack of dawn, to get a quarter pound of bread. So much for "Bath Gottas".!

Issue is not the feats, it is within UNP. Tissa longer you take to understand that, merrier is MR.

Ahmed Iqbal Monday, 12 September 2011 07:13 AM

Yes! Buth parcels at whose cost? The most were at the Party's cost. Definitely cannot be compared with 5 Star Menus for thousands in one sitting.and out of the State Coffers. Jayawewa! Suba Anagathayak!!

After years of slumber, the UNP has still not waken up to the reality. They've forgotten that just pointing out constitutional facts cannot make democracy safe in this country. To make a difference they should get the support of the masses first.

Offer a big feast and see how many turn up ...ha ha ha

Big Ears Sunday, 11 September 2011 05:03 PM

Do not protest. Open the Sri Kotha and invite the deputy leaders for a start for a meal and drink. We too can join and also enjoy the new asphalt road.

    Concerned Sunday, 11 September 2011 05:41 PM

Who knows whether all who eat there will vote against you?

    Minister Sunday, 11 September 2011 05:49 PM

Do you mean to say that all dansalas are against the election law in Sri Lanka?

    P.L.J.B.Palipana Sunday, 11 September 2011 10:46 PM

    This was an disgraceful act,sir.

    Nihal Monday, 12 September 2011 12:48 AM

If UNP has confidence all these feasts does not really matter. People are not stupid !
