United National Party (UNP) candidates will boycott the Parliamentary Council that will sit tomorrow to approve the appointment of another Chief Justice.

Chief Opposition Whip John Amratunga said neither the Leader of Opposition Ranil Wickremesinghe nor MP D. M. Swarminathan would participate in the Council meeting.

“There is no point in UNP participating in the Council as it had opposed the 18th Amendment to the Constitution right from the beginning,” Mr. Amratunga said.

The UNP  boycotted the Parliamentary Council after it was appointed following the enacting of the 18th Amendment which the party opposed. (YP)

Exactly...Nobody from opposition gave proof that CJ is innocent in the Debate, all talked about the legality. This only shows she is guilty.

As I see it, All elected members should attend all meetings of Parliament. Otherwise they are letting down the people who voted for them, to represent their point of view. What is the idea of boycotting the Council meeting, whom are they trying to fool?

    Good. Follow at least JVP.

Ranil if only you had given up the leadership and gone home many years back, we would have had a strong UNP opposition today and a avoided this crisis. All of your actions in the recent impeachment was absolutely passive and I am sure MR will reward you for that.
