UNP looks into university issues

The main opposition UNP has appointed a special committee to probe into issues faced by the academics and prepare a detailed report on the matters, party sources said.

The committee, which includes MP Kabir Hashim, MP Lakshman Kiriella, MP Wijedasa Rajapaksa and MP Akila Viraj are due to prepare and submit a detailed report to party leader Ranil Wickramasinghe on the salary issue as well as other issues faced by local academics following a discussion with university teacher associations within the next few days.

Once the report is submitted, Mr. Wickramasinghe would discuss with the associations which represent the academics on their issues. (Lakna Paranamanna)
