A meeting of the United National Front (UNF) alliance members headed by UNP leader Ranil Wickramasingha, held this evening to discuss the national list issue as well as the future of the alliance, ended in deadlock and is set to continue tomorrow.

Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) leader Rauff Hakeem, SLFP (M) wing leader Mangala Samaraweera and Democratic Peoples Front (DPF) national organizer Prabha Ganeshan also attended the meeting.

“The meeting was held to primarily discuss the issue concerning the allocation of national list slots to the UNF and the future of the alliance. A decision was not reached today so another meeting is scheduled to be held tomorrow,” DPF leader Mano Ganeshan told Daily Mirror online.

The DPF had earlier split from the UNF alliance after the UNP leader failed to include Mano Ganeshan in Parliament on the national list. The party is however now having talks with the UNF in an attempt to reach an amicable agreement.

SLFP (M) wing leader Mangala Samaraweera has meanwhile been invited to join the UNP and Mr. Samaraweera confirmed to Daily Mirror online that he had received the invitation from the UNP leader but refused to comment further. (Daily Mirror online)

Ranil is said to have walked out of Temple Trees with his bag as soon as he lost an election. But now he is not walking out even after he and the UNP have lost the country for ever. MR will be there for life. UNP is now history. Stop talking and go home boys, you have let Country down because of personal greed for power. It is now too late and you have missed the last bus.

The meeting will end amicably only when Mano Ganeshan is given a seat. !!

    Wednesday, 28 April 2010 04:40 AM

It is time, Ranil pass on the Leadership of UNP to another, such as Sajith Premadasa.

    Wednesday, 28 April 2010 05:01 AM

Because Ranil is not quitting, he is giving more power to UPFA and putting the country in big trouble.

Pls go out Ranil Pls go.. for the sake of ur people and UNP voters Please go.

The fact is that, Mano Ganeshan who has never been defeated in Colombo District opted Kandy on the request of Ranil to try and garner from 85,000 Tamil votes. And thereby he tried to muster the support of UNF, on the understanding that UNF in the event of failure will allocate a National list seat for DPF. Colombo would have been a breeze for Mano otherwise. SO its hightime that Ranil, honored that promise. He has so far been a gentleman in Politics. It remains to be seen whether he is worth to be still called so.

All this fuss about someone who contested and lost - rejected by the very people whom he sought to represent. Then what about people like Rukman Senanayake, Karunasena Kodituwakku ..., ? Men who served the party for years and years have now stepped back with grace. In hindsight, Mano Ganeshan should have opted to stay on the national list instead of contesting.

If UNP needs to get back to power , follow the Indian system. Let Ranil be the President of the Party like Sonia Ghandi and get a younger person with a vision and a mission like Sajith Premadsa who is popular among the youth and the genreal public. to lead the party.
