UNF heavyweights want Marapana out

Several UNF MPs, including Ministers, have reportedly called for the resignation of Law and Order Minister Tilak Marapana over his stance on the controversial Avant Garde floating armoury.

Informed sources told Daily Mirror the MPs had made this call at the UNF group meeting at Temple Trees last morning, chaired by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

The MPs had reportedly been of the opinion that an improper investigation into the Avant Garde case would have an adverse effect on the government.
The issue had come up when Minister Gamini Jayawickrama Perera had stressed the need for a proper investigation into the matter.

Deputy Minister Ajith Perera had asked why the Avant Garde investigation was moving at a lethargic pace when other cases like Wele Suda's drug dealings were being expedited. He also proposed the setting up of a special judicial system to investigate serious crimes.

Minister Champika Ranawaka had charged that some Ministers were defending perpetrators of large-scale corruption.

Premier Wickremesinghe had then assured the group that he would discuss the matter with President Maithripala Sirisena. (Yohan Perera)

PEOPLE ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED OF YAHAPALANA KRAMAWEDAYA SO FAR.Definitely marapana should be fired. None of those who jabber about Avant Grade floating armory do know the legality of the functioning of the Company. Media had created a bogus hype and that has resulted in this being considered as the biggest fraud that has taken place in the recent past. That is not the correct state of affairs. This is a perfectly legal operation carried out by an innovative entrepreneur, an aspect of commerce which had not been considered by any local businessmen previously. Those who lament that the Sri Lankan Navy could have earned this money are people who do not know about the legal inability to carry out such an operation. These foolish Ministers and JVP MPs (whom I believe are knowingly misleading the public) should be deplored for their stupidity. Well done Hon. Marapana. You had the back bone to call a spade a spade.

The PM made a wrong choice.There are so many youngmps. in the parliament who can handle any portfolios efficiently. And also they have good vote base.Allocating bonus seats for these type of individuals not worth.
