UNP Colombo district candidate Susil Kindelpitiya was arrested by the police this morning over a complaint lodged by a woman last night alleging abuse and harassment, Police spokesman S.P Jayakody told Daily Mirror online.
According to the police spokesman the former Sirasa News Director was arrested after the lady complained that he had abused her and later threatened her with a weapon. The police also claimed that initial investigations found that he had abused several other women as well.
The police spokesman said that at the time of the arrest police had found another woman, a navy deserter and a fire arm in the jeep of Mr. Kindelpitiya together with the driver who were subsequently taken into custody.
The police spokesman said that further investigations into the former journalist was now underway. Susil Kindelpitiya recently resigned from the Sirasa media network to contest the upcoming General Elections. (Daily Mirror online)

Let us all be responsible, in our approach to this. Does the word 'abuse' refer to verbal abuse or sexual abuse? If it is the former, one may reasonably be prompted to consider that the police have possibly overreacted, in resorting to an arrest. However, if it is the latter, can any responsible and law abiding person find fault with the police for proceeding with the case, as they have already done?
