An unannounced power cut in several parts in the Colombo District and its suburbs took place today for the second consecutive day which the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) stated that it was due to ongoing repairs and maintenance work delayed by bad weather conditions.

The power cut mainly took place in Rajagiriya, Battaramulla, Koswatta, Pelawatta, Kaduwela and Nawala. Residents complained that the power cuts took place throughout the day but the CEB stated that the power cuts were reported in the evening only.

According to CEB sources that the interruption came due to repairs that the CEB had to undertake since Monday after a backhoe had crashed into the transformer on the Japan-Lanka Friendship Road, near Parliament.

A spokesman of the CEB said electricity was restored after several hours. Steps were taken to provide temporary power supply to the affected areas and steps were taken to reinstate electricity in the meantime.

On Monday even in Pettah and Colombo Fort power interruptions were reported.

However, the public was not officially been informed of any power cuts while no policy decision has been taken by the CEB regarding power cuts. (Supun Dias)
