UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric
While welcoming the new Sri Lankan government's decision to initiate a local probe into alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka, the United Nations said that the UN Chief's call and the UNHR Chief's call for Sri Lanka to cooperate with the UN inquiry will stand.

"Obviously, we welcome — you know, we would welcome any move that would help to bring light what's happened in Sri Lanka.  But the Secretary-general’s call and the High Commissioner's call for cooperation with the UN inquiries stand," Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesman for the Secretary-General said addressing the daily press briefing.

SL should initiate its own investigation and bring to books if any are found of guilty of crimes against humanity. Keep the UN out. via DM Android App

Toothless Tiger Saturday, 07 February 2015 01:27 PM

When a country is at war particularly when its fighting against the deadliest terrorist group on the planet, there are bound to be some unavoidable civilian casualties. A War Crime can only be denoted as one if there were deliberate and planned attacks on civilians. Killing the enemy however who is disguised as a civilian who has been craftily listed as a missing person by an angry relative who in reality was an enlisted terrorist too is no war crime. The UN knows nothing of our war, if they really must look for war crimes I suggest they scrutinize the actions of all those leaders who were instrumental in forming the coalition that destroyed Iraq and Afghanistan and killed thousands of innocent civilians there. The UN is truly a toothless tiger now, most of its ideas principle and laws are outdated and need a full rehaul to meet current world trends or it should be scrapped and a new organization formed in its place.

The Government of Srilanka has to decide if they want the UN justice or Srilankan justice meted out to the perpetrators of white van, Lasantha, Grease Yaka and unarmed civilian deaths of the ruthless leaders of insurgents (who are living) and the army, who took laws into their own hands. We need to find out where the orders came from and hold that person responsible and not the followers of the orders. If this is not addressed, today it is the minority, tomorrow it will be all Srilankans. No promises of safety should matter

UN and UNHCR - were you guys sleeping when the US and the West killed hundreds of thousands of civilians in Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Libya, Egypt, Syria and all other countries where they were involved. The more you talk the more you expose the biased attitude of the UN and UNHRC towards to US and the West. Dont talk guys - just do it like "nike" does it

Well done Sir. You are welcome to Sri Lanka to carryout the investigation.

    Freddy Sunday, 08 February 2015 02:43 PM

The lies and fabrication by your previous administration by UN cannot be relied and and a new investigation from scratch must be made with the Sri Lankan Government and Tamils of Sri Lanka Only nothing to do with the ltte terrorist organization. UN, US,UK, Australia, New Zealand etc must return all ltte for genocide, war crimes and killing. All assets and moneys to be seized and forwarded to Sri Lanka for building new infrastructure, and all Diaspora and transnational to be closed. Terrorism should not be allowed to exist.

We should not deviate from our stand of UN being a Hypocrite. They were sleeping for 30 years while LTTE made this country a blood bath by killing innocent people irrespective of whether they were Sinhala, Tamil or Muslims. They should understand that “Yaha Palanaya” does not mean bending to hooliganism. This is a good opportunity for all of us voters to judge this government before the Parliamentary elections to know whether they have a back bone. While rejecting all dirty things done by the previous government all should respect the stand taken by MR in resisting the Western forces attempt to push in their agendas to our mother land. Good opportunity for us to evaluate RW’s stand also.
