The Inter-University Student Federation (IUSF) charged today that the IUSF Convener, Udul Premaratne who is currently detained at the Welikada prison is being treated far poorly than other prisoners convicted for more serious crimes.

IUSF Acting Spokesman, Sanjeewa Bandara who paid a visit to Premaratne said that he is only allowed half an hour to go out-doors and has been detained in a single person’s cell.

“Usually prisoners are detained together unless they are convicted for serious crimes such as murder. However Udul who has not done anything seriously wrong and who has played an important role in attempting to eliminate student suppression and continuously encouraged free education has been detained in this unacceptable manner,” Bandara said. I am a former student of a mid level technical college which had a very good output in terms of job placement and overall student performance. The diploma thus awarded was well recognized and hence every student who gained admission was guaranteed of a decent job in the mid level capacity. However this JVP led IUSF somehow crept into the system and within a few years almost ruined this modest institution to ruins. I take my hat off to minister Dissanayake for taking the tough stance against these elements and hope all the leadership would be simply wiped out. Especially this Udul fellow who is more than 30 years of age and still in university – hope he will never see the outside of Welikada for a long while.

You go to a university for a purpose. If political science is a main subject there is no harm in learning it. But that doesn't give them the right to exercise the subject at will. Anyway once most students pass out from uni and feel the hardships of the real world, they alter their thinking. I think its best that they try to
understand what reality is and gear up to face this reality without wasting valuable time

This man is no longer a student since 2008. His studentship has been canceled my Peradeniya Dental Fac since 29th July 2008. He is just a paid employee by JVP.
