TV artiste arrested with fake currency notes

A man said to be a TV artiste and singer was arrested last night on charges of having in his possession 151 counterfeit notes each of the 1000-rupee denomination, Mahargama police said.

The suspect told police that a person known to him had been asked by a remand prisoner to collect a parcel from a boutique in Kurunegala town and that they had gone there and collected the parcel as advised by the remand prisoner.

Police are on the lookout for the other suspect. (Muditha Dayananada)
