Audio: Tsunami warning rehearsals today

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) spokesman Pradeep Kodippili said a tsunami rehearsal, covering 14 coastal districts in selected villages in Sri Lanka, would be held at 3.00pm this afternoon.

The programme will provide the guidance to people to find places of safety and check Tsunami Early Warning systems, he said.

The programme conducted together with the Metrological Department in collaboration with the DMC District units, will process information given by the Met. Dept, tsunami alerts will be provided and a full Tsunami evacuation programme will be put into operation (Chaturanga Pradeep)

    Very important part of the exercise will include the government banks testing IT programs on quick transfers of foreign aid disaster money that come in to the country to private bank accounts with out any hiccup's or delays.
